What is the Imperial WalTM Block?
The Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM Block is a glazed concrete masonry unit designed to give the architect an opportunity to design the base of a wall with a large scale patterns rather than the traditional 8x16, or for any large interior or exterior wall where the scale of the eternal masonry rectangle just wont do. These imperial scaled block have proven to be an excellent application where large openings for high traffic must be achieved.
Cost:
The average cost for Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM units are $18.60 per square foot completely installed. Ordering Imperial WalTM units in large quantities will allow the manufacturer to give substantial discounts from this average price. For example: the photograph to the left is of the Pittsburgh Airport. By current calculation, the volume of this project would have offered this block at $16.15 per square foot completely installed. All cost are were taken from a U.S. and Canadian average and were calculated in accordance with 1998 Means Building Cost Construction Data which includes a 20% markup for construction profit.
What through wall sizes are available?
The Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM 12x12 units are available in 4", 6" and 8" through wall dimensions by most of the Spectra-Glaze® manufacturers. Although the 12x12 corner unit is limited to a 4" return. The Imperial WalTM 16x16 and 16x24 are only offered in 4" through wall dimensions at this time.
What types of Corners are available?
The Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM 12x12 corner unit is available with a 45° miter, a 4" bull nose or square jamb corner. However, if needed, the 12x12 block could also be made with the People FriendlyTM type corner.
The Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM 16x16 unit are available with 45° miters, a 4" bull nose or square jamb corner and the People FriendlyTM Corner Series.
The Spectra-Glaze® Imperial WalTM 16x24 units are availble with 45° mitered corners.
How much do the block weigh?
On average the 4x12x12 unit weighs 24 pounds, the 4x16x16 units weighs 45 pounds and the 16x24 unit weighs 75 pounds. Weights will vary from factory to factory.
Can I get the raw block with no glaze?
Yes. Any Imperial WalTM block available with a Spectra-Glaze® finish can be purchased without the finish.
Can I get the Imperial WalTM Block with cores?
At this time only the 12x12 unit is offered with cores. The 16x16 and 16x24 are solid units.
