Most Frequently Asked Questions:
Cost:
Spectra-Glaze® Soft CornerTM Block offers choice in design with a considerable savings as compared to the typical 8 eight inch return corner. The average cost of an 8" wall is $11.23 per square foot completely installed. This number was calculated with the most expensive corning system, "the 8 inch full return corner". The Soft CornerTM system is about 15% less expensive than the 8 inch full return cornering system offering a savings of up to $64.00 per 8 foot high corner. When the Soft CornerTM system is used throughout the building, the average cost of your Spectra-Glaze® wall is reduced to $10.93 completly installed. All cost were taken from a U.S. and Canadian average and were calculated in accordance with 1998 Means Building Cost Construction Data which includes a 20% markup for construction profit.
Available Sizes:
Raw block which were specially designed to match the glazed surface are only available in eight inch through-wall dimension. However, if smaller sized through wall dimension are required, block can be cut to fit the glazed surface. If smaller raw block are used, the exposed inner raw block will require additional decoration.
Can I get the exterior corner raw block without the glaze?
Yes. Designing walls with Spectra-Glaze® Soft CornersTM allows the architect to design the base half of a wall with Spectra-Glaze® and the upper half with a matching raw block.
What are the internal and external radius dimensions?
The exterior radius is sixteen inches and the interior radius is eight inches.
Are other radius options available?
No. At this time, Spectra-Glaze® Soft CornersTM are only available in sixteen inch exterior dimensions and eight inch interior dimension.
Can I build a column with the Soft CornerTM Block?
Yes. By using eight 8E block, a circle with a 32 inch outside diameter will be formed. An oval shape can be achieved as shown in the lower right portion of the diagram to the right.
Can I design a wall with stack bond or running bond?
Yes. Spectra-Glaze® Soft CornerTM Block can be designed with stack or running bond. The transitional block known as 8EK block allows the block to stay on running bond on the exterior. A combination of 8I and 8IK block allows the wall to be built with running bond on interior corners.
Can I use Soft CornerTM Block to design a 45° corner?
Yes. As shown in the diagram to the right, by using one (1) 8E or Two (2) 8EK block will create an external 45° corner. By using one (1) 8IK block, you can achieve a 45° internal corner.
Innovative Soft CornersTM transform internal corners from sharp crevices that are difficult to maintain, to the soft, easily cleaned 8" radius corners. The 16" external radius helps traffic flow, visibility and safety in congested areas. Both corners enhance appearance by keeping walls on modular bond, eliminating those unsightly added mortar joints at the corners.
The diagram to the right show the detailed measurements of Soft CornerTM Block. You will note that:
8 - stands for Eight (8) inches through wall.
I - stands for Internal corners.
E - stands for External corners.
K - stands for the Transitional block required to build a wall with running bond.
